I will be teaching a one off improvisation workshop at the Moving Stories Residency on May 25th.
Temporal Jukebox - Exploring the state of dance beyond the 'now'
In this workshop we will explore the state of dance improvisation in relation to past experiences, the present moment and imaginary futures. Inspired by Nancy Stark-Smith's writing and definition of dance as a coming together of minds. A state, as she describes, in which we can bring together and switch between our different minds or beings to layer, reveal, research, synthesize and play them in one body at one time. Through the exploration of different strategies and tools we will play with the disruption of linear time and expand the sense of 'now' as an entry point to both the past and the future. Besides a sensorial practice that focuses on deepening perceptional awareness, we will also stretch our conceptual boundaries that may feed or limit these entry points for dance.
